Emotierijk

Meet Jody & Joris

Emotierijk was created with the help of child psychologists, child coaches, play therapists, and educators. Emotierijk contributes to the development of children's emotional intelligence. It is based on principles from behavioural and psychotherapeutic approaches: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, EFT, and Compassionate Inquiry (Gabor Maté's approach). We also use the principles of storytelling.

Emotional growth and wisdom

In Emotierijk, children set out on an enchanting journey where they discover how emotions can unlock powerful superpowers. By feeling emotions, reflecting on them, and taking action, they develop transformative strengths. Our vision covers four elements:

  1. 1offering children a language for emotions; encouraging them to embrace, understand, and talk about their feelings;
  2. 2stimulating creativity through storytelling in the magical Emotierijk;
  3. 3discovering positive ways to deal with emotions; and
  4. 4sparking children's imagination and growing their self-confidence.

All of this contributes to a deeper understanding of emotions and gives children a fresh language to express them in a new way.

Which stories do you tell…

Making up stories together has proven to be our way of exploring, understanding, and learning to embrace emotions. By taking the time, and showing that we as adults experience emotions too, room appears to go deeper than words on paper.

"Even when he is happy, he is really, truly happy." By looking beyond the first layer of emotions, naming what lies beneath, and acknowledging it, we help children understand and express their feelings, whether it is great joy or a moment of sadness.
