Where it began

Emotierijk began in 2023 as a Dutch children's book by Jody Tuur and Joris Scharp. Making up stories together turned out to be a way to explore, understand, and learn to embrace emotions. By taking the time, and showing that adults have emotions too, there was room to go deeper than words on paper.

"Even when he is happy, he is really, truly happy." By looking beyond the first layer of emotions, naming what lies beneath, and acknowledging it, we help children understand and express their feelings.

Out of those stories grew a world: fourteen Protectors, each with their own emotion, their own land, and their own power. Every emotion got a face and a place, from the Fire Mountains to the Cave of Light. What began as a book with cards grew into the magical Emotierijk.

Today, that realm lives on in the app. That is where you discover the Protectors and their cards, encounter by encounter: every story a step in emotional growth.
